Job summary

AMETEK, Inc.’s Advanced Measurement Technologies unit in Oak Ridge, TN seeks a hands-on Cost Accountant to support manufacturing accounting and cost management. The role requires organization, communication, and a solid understanding of costing in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with standard cost build-up through BOMs and routings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate product costing, including BOMs, overhead rates, and related components.
• Provide cost analysis to support pricing reviews.
• Perform make vs. buy analysis.
• Lead the annual standard cost review process.
• Coordinate annual physical inventory in Oak Ridge and Athens sites and perform monthly cycle count spot checks.
• Create and monitor accounting for special projects.
• Support Operations by developing dashboards, metrics, and related reporting.
• Plan, coordinate, and assist with reconciliation of cycle counts and physical inventories.
• Maintain documentation of procedures performed.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements and support implementation.

Job Description

AMETEK’s Advanced Measurement Technology (AMT) business unit, within the Materials Analysis Division of AMETEK’s Electronic Instruments Group, is seeking a hands-on Cost Accountant. This role supports operational and accounting activities, requiring strong organization, communication skills, and an understanding of manufacturing accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Costing Activities

• Ensure accurate product costing, including review of BOMs, overhead rates, and related components
• Provide cost analysis to support pricing reviews
• Perform make vs. buy analysis
• Lead the annual standard cost review process
• Coordinate the annual physical inventory in Oak Ridge and Athens sites and perform monthly cycle count spot checks
• Create and monitor accounting for special projects
• Support Operations by developing and maintaining dashboards, metrics, and related reporting
• Plan, coordinate, and assist with reconciliation of cycle counts and physical inventories
• Maintain documentation of procedures performed

General Ledger & Financial Activities

• Assist with month-end close activities and preparation of monthly financial statements
• Support the implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls and procedures
• Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accuracy
• Prepare journal entries
• Assist with internal and external audit requests
• Ensure adherence to corporate and divisional policies and procedures
• Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses and communicate findings cross-functionally
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience required
• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with standard cost build-up through BOMs and routings

Technical Knowledge

• Exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
• Experience with Oracle ERP systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision‑making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI‑generated outputs.
