Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC seeks a Cost Accountant in Norcross, GA to own the full cost accounting function in a stable manufacturing environment. You will partner with operations, finance, and executive leadership to drive margin analysis and cost reporting.

You will manage job costing, inventory valuation, overhead absorption, and variance analysis, supporting month-end close and audits. CPA/CMA progress is a plus; strong Excel and ERP skills are required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in accounting with a strong focus on manufacturing cost accounting.
  • 7–10 years manufacturing experience preferred; exceptions for strong cost-experience.
  • Experience with absorption accounting, overhead recovery, and job costing.
  • Advanced Excel skills and ERP system experience.
  • CPA or CMA certification or progress is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor job margins and variances in materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Investigate root causes of variances and report findings to management.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and reporting.
  • Manage overhead absorption and recovery rates.
  • Monitor inventory valuation and counts (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
  • Analyze inventory aging and reserves; support physical counts.
  • Collaborate with operations to improve costing accuracy.
  • Support month-end close, cost reporting, forecasting, audits, and financial statements.

Key Responsibilities

As the Cost Accountant, you will:

  • Monitor job margins and compare actual costs to expected costs, identifying variances in materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead
  • Investigate the root causes of cost and margin variances and communicate findings to management
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting
  • Manage overhead absorption and recovery rates to ensure manufacturing costs are properly captured
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods
  • Analyze inventory aging, calculate reserves, and support physical inventory counts
  • Partner with operations and other departments to improve costing accuracy and identify efficiency opportunities
  • Support month-end close, journal entries, cost reporting, forecasting, audits, and financial statement preparation
Qualifications

Ideal candidates for this Cost Accountant role will have:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience with a strong focus on manufacturing cost accounting
  • Approximately 7–10 years of manufacturing experience preferred, though less experience may be considered for candidates with strong hands-on cost accounting expertise
  • Experience with absorption accounting, overhead recovery rates, inventory accounting, and job costing
  • Strong understanding of material, labor, and manufacturing overhead variances
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • CPA or CMA certification, eligibility, or progress toward certification is a strong plus
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working within an ERP system
  • SAP or Syspro experience is preferred but not required
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial teams
