Colonial Group is seeking a Cost Accountant in Livingston, NJ, to support accounting across multiple facets. The role requires strong Excel skills, QuickBooks experience, and the ability to travel for inventory projects and other initiatives.

After successful probation, the position shifts to a hybrid in-office schedule. The candidate will handle month-end closings, cost accounting, and tax-related tasks while collaborating with plant locations nationwide.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Process AR, AP, billing, inventory for QuickBooks company.
• Process material adjustments, finished goods inventory adjustments, scrap adjustments, purchase requisition approvals, credit memos and A/R write-offs.
• Perform month-end and year-end closing; manage budget setup and cost reports.
• Upload non-AS400 TB into AS400; prepare and analyze cost information and reports.
• Perform profit/loss variance analysis and determine root causes; coordinate resolutions.
• Reconcile major accrual balances and cost-related accounts.
• Prepare audit information and respond to auditors; conduct annual inventories for audits.
• Prepare tax information and manage use tax and state sales tax filings.
• Process payments including auto-deductions and vendor inquiries.

TITLE: CostAccountant

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Position is responsible to support Company in many facets of Accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
• Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and PowerPoint), especially Microsoft Excel (strong analytical tools knowledge and experience, i.e. spreadsheets, formulas, pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
• Ability to work overtime during month-end closing and year-end closing
• Ability to travel to domestic sites and or plant locations for physical inventory projects or for other special projects as needed
• Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
• Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• QuickBooks: Process AR, AP, billing, inventory for QuickBooks company.
• Routines: Process material adjustments, finished goods inventory adjustments, scrap adjustments, purchase requisition approvals, credit memos and A/R write-offs.
• Perform month-end and year-end closing. Process expense transfer and correction, maintain cost tables, maintain expense queries, prepare cost reports and management reports, work with Division Office for budget setup.
• Upload non-AS400 TB into AS400.
• Prepare and analyze cost information/report. Responsible for profit/loss variance analysis, find the root cause for cost abnormality, work with related parties to find resolution.
• Reconcile accounts: monitor and maintain major accrual balance, reconcile cost related accounts.
• Prepare audit information: work with auditor for the required information and reports for auditing, responsible for providing explanation, follow up and adjustment, perform annual physical inventory for internal and external auditing purpose.
• Prepare tax information and in charge of use tax and state tax filing: prepare tax package for Tax Dept, prepare Sales by State Report, file Use Tax and state sales tax, prepare property tax information, perform tax research.
• Perform payment processing: auto-deduction payments, review invoices, respond to vendors' payment inquiries.
• Work with plant accountants to help with HQ issues.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to plant locations throughout the country.
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
