Job summary

NextPlay Jobs is seeking a Cost Accountant in Grand Rapids, MI to join our growing manufacturing accounting team. You will support cost and inventory accounting, analyze product costs, and contribute to month-end close and financial reporting.

The role requires hands-on accounting in a manufacturing environment, with a hybrid schedule (2–3 days in office) and a base salary range of $75,000–$85,000. You will partner with operations to improve processes and controls.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support cost accounting and inventory-related accounting activities.
• Perform inventory analysis, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Analyze product costs, cost trends, and variances to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
• Assist with general ledger accounting and ensure transactions are recorded accurately.
• Support fixed asset tracking and reporting.
• Assist with financial reporting, management reporting, and variance analysis.
• Analyze financial and operational data and communicate findings to accounting and business leaders.
• Partner with operations and other departments to ensure accurate financial information.
• Assist with annual audit preparation and other accounting reporting requirements.
• Support ERP, system, and accounting process improvement initiatives.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Hybrid, 2–3 Days In Office

A growing manufacturing organization in the Grand Rapids area is seeking a Cost Accountant to join its accounting team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with experience supporting manufacturing, distribution, inventory, or other product-based environments who enjoys combining hands-on accounting with financial analysis and process improvement.

The Cost Accountant will play an important role in supporting accurate inventory and cost reporting while partnering with the broader accounting and operations teams. This individual will also contribute to general accounting activities, month-end close, financial analysis, and ongoing process improvements within a growing, multi-location organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Support cost accounting and inventory-related accounting activities
• Perform inventory analysis, reconciliations, and reporting
• Analyze product costs, cost trends, and variances to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement
• Support month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Assist with general ledger accounting and ensure transactions are recorded accurately
• Support fixed asset tracking and reporting
• Assist with financial reporting, management reporting, and variance analysis

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Previous accounting experience within a manufacturing, distribution, inventory-intensive, or product-based environment
• Experience with cost accounting and/or inventory accounting
• Understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and U.S. GAAP
• Experience working with ERP/accounting systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience within a manufacturing or distribution organization
• Exposure to product costing, inventory valuation, COGS, or cost/variance analysis
• Experience with ERP implementations, upgrades, or system conversions
• Experience working within a multi-location, high-growth, or acquisition-driven organization
• Experience partnering with operational teams outside of accounting

Compensation & Schedule

This position offers a $75,000–$85,000 base salary and a hybrid schedule with approximately 2–3 days per week in the Grand Rapids office.
