Job summary

Real estate development organization is looking to add a Cost Accountant to support project accounting, cost tracking, budgeting and financial reporting. The role collaborates with project management and accounting teams to improve cost tracking and reporting across development projects.

The position involves preparing monthly reconciliations, construction draw packages and supporting schedules for leadership, lenders and equity partners.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of project accounting, cost accounting or related experience preferred.
• Understanding of job costing, project budgets and general accounting principles.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accounts payable and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Track and manage costs for development projects, including pre-development and construction costs.
• Partner with project managers to establish and monitor project budgets and cost allocations.
• Review invoices for correct coding and allocation to projects and accounts.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations of project activity, GL accounts and bank statements.
• Prepare monthly construction draw packages with budgets, invoices and lien waivers.
• Monitor project expenditures, outstanding invoices and funding activity.
• Prepare financial reports and schedules for leadership, lenders and equity partners.
• Assist with cost calculations for management fees and related accounting.
• Maintain capital expenditure tracking and amortization schedules.
• Collaborate to improve cost tracking, reporting and efficiency.
• Participate in accounting system enhancements to support growth.

As the company expands its portfolio of development projects, they are looking to add a Cost Accountant to support project accounting, cost tracking, budgeting and financial reporting.

What You'll Do

• Track and manage costs associated with development projects, including pre-development expenses, construction costs and ongoing project expenditures.
• Partner with project managers to establish, maintain and monitor project budgets, including budget changes and cost allocations.
• Review invoices for accurate coding and allocation to the appropriate projects and accounts.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations of project activity, general ledger accounts and bank statements.
• Prepare monthly construction draw packages, including project budgets, supporting invoices, lien waivers and other required documentation.
• Monitor project expenditures, outstanding invoices and funding activity.
• Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules for internal leadership, lenders and equity partners.
• Assist with development and construction management fee calculations and related accounting.
• Maintain capital expenditure tracking, amortization schedules and project-related financial records.
• Collaborate with accounting and project management teams to improve cost tracking, reporting and overall efficiency.
• Participate in accounting system enhancements and implementation projects to support continued growth.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.
• 3+ years of project accounting, cost accounting or related experience preferred.
• Understanding of job costing, project budgets and general accounting principles.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accounts payable and financial reporting.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting systems.
• Ability to analyze project costs, investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate financial records.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with accounting and operational teams.
• Real estate development, construction or property accounting experience is a plus.
