Job summary

Beaufort County Community College seeks a Cosmetic Arts instructor to teach beginning and/or advanced students in Washington, NC. The position is a Faculty role with Contracted Term employment, offering full-/part-time hours. The instructor will develop courses, create materials, and support student outcomes.

Required: NC Cosmetologist license, NC Cosmetology Teacher license, and CEUs. Minimum 2 years of licensed cosmetology experience.

Qualifications

  • Must have CEUs supporting field experience/advanced education in Cosmetology.

  • Provide instruction for Cosmetology courses.
  • Develop courses following department/state guidelines.
  • Create course materials: outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, handouts, lectures, slides.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Required: Current North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Cosmetologist license
  • Required: Current North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Cosmetology Teacher license
  • Required: Current CEUs that support field experience and/or advanced education in Cosmetology.

Work Experience:

  • Required: Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Associates Degree in Cosmetology from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Have at least 2 years’ experience as a licensed cosmetology instructor, preferably within a community college.
  • Five years documented cosmetology work experience.
  • Experience working with all hair color techniques and corrective color.
  • Provide instruction for courses.
  • Course development will follow department, institutional, and state guidelines.
  • Create course materials (course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, handouts, lectures, slides, assignments, rubrics, models, classroom schedule activities, group work).
  • Develop, prepare and grade assignments identified to evaluate student performance and based on student learning outcomes.
  • Set up materials on Canvas (grade book, assignments)
  • Set up policies compliant with department, institutional, and state regulations and requirements.
  • Hold student conferences as needed and required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs and/or accreditation requirements.
  • Correspond with students, lead instructor, division dean, and Vice President of Academic Affairs and provide responses in a timely manner.
  • Keep up with grades and attendance on a weekly basis. Submit grade and attendance reports as required. Record attendance in Self-Service.
  • Organize and maintain a clean and efficient classroom and lab setting; model and instruct students on the importance of a clean and organized work environment.
  • Oversee inventory control and management.
  • Work with students registered with Disabilities Services.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in the career field of Cosmetology and the NC Cosmetic Art Rules and Regulations
  • Complete all compulsory training in regards to FERPA , Title IX, and Campus Safety.
  • Respond to student issues professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the Lead Instructor.
  • Adhere to all division and campus policies and procedures.
