Job summary

West Georgia Technical College is seeking a full-time Cosmetology Instructor to prepare lesson plans, deliver theory and practical Cosmetology instruction, and guide certificate program students toward successful completion.

Under general supervision, you will assess student progress, maintain documentation, and stay current with industry trends. You will participate in professional development and support recruitment and job placement efforts while upholding program accreditation requirements.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Cosmetology from an accredited post-secondary institution or equivalent.
• Current Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers or Master Cosmetologist License.
• Three (3) out of the past seven (7) years of field experience.
• Valid Driver’s License

Job Description:

Job Summary:

This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact by preparing students for successful careers in the esthetics industry through hands-on, real-world training in a supportive learning environment. Under general supervision, the instructor will prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited technical/occupational courses. The instructor will prepare standardized course syllabi using a provided template and assess students’ satisfactory progress based on established course grading requirements. This instructor will teach courses for certificate program while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. The instructor will provide instruction in the theory and practical applications of Cosmetology. Measures program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success.

Instruction:

• Provides instruction in theory and practical applications of the discipline in accordance with academic state standards.
• Instructs courses in a classroom and lab environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry.

• Grades all coursework in a timely manner.
• Provides student support and advising.
• Maintains office hours weekly.
• Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the discipline area.
• Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues.
• Maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate for the teaching discipline.
• Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the discipline.
• Attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.

Curriculum/Student Learning Outcomes:

• Prepares lesson plans for instruction.
• Works collaboratively with faculty within discipline to establish, measure, and evaluate program or departmental student learning outcomes for continuous student improvement and success and submits to appropriate program chair/director.
• Participates in faculty calibration exercises and mentoring of faculty.
• Attends faculty meetings as scheduled.

Supports Program Director/Division Deans/Associate Deans:

• Requests and maintains supplies and equipment.
• Assists Program Director with budget preparation and requests.
• Actively supports program recruitment, student retention, and job placement efforts.
• Serves on department and collegiate committees and project assignments as necessary.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional classroom/lab/clinical environment. This role routinely uses standard office/classroom/lab equipment and technologies.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move classroom/lab equipment and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time instructional position. The work load is Monday-Friday with possible evenings or weekends based on needs.

Travel:

Travel to other campuses and outside of the service delivery area is a possibility for meetings, trainings, and professional development.

Required Education and Experience:

• Certificate in Cosmetology from an accredited post-secondary institution or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers, Esthetician Instructor or Master Cosmetology Instructor License.
• Cosmetology teaching experience.
• Teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
• Experience preparing students for state board licensure.
