Job summary

West Virginia Schools of Diversion and Transition (WVSDT) seeks a part-time Adult Education Teacher to provide instruction that aligns with learning objectives and standards for relevant content at Lakin Correctional Center in Mason County. The role requires WV career and technical education licensure, plus a minimum of two years of related experience.

You will foster a productive classroom environment, monitor progress, and collaborate with host agency staff to integrate treatment and education

Qualifications

• Qualifies for or holds West Virginia Career and Technical Education Licensure, as required under State Board of Education Policy 5202.
• Documented minimum of two years of relevant experience in the endorsement area.
• Cosmetologist & Instructor License issued by the WV Board of Barbers & Cosmetologists.
• Experience in teaching troubled, at risk, or incarcerated offenders.

Responsibilities

• Implement the WV Schools of Diversion and Transition approved program of study.
• Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
• Utilize instructional techniques and methods which increase student learning.
• Monitor student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives.
• Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs.
• May require flexibility in work hours to meet the needs of the target population.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress.
• Meet professional responsibilities.
• Comply with host agency's policies and procedures.
• Work cooperatively with host agency staff to ensure a safe and secure environment and the integration of treatment and educational goals.
• Maintains appropriate tool control utilizing proper inventory and security of all tools, equipment, and consumable supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by principal/lead teacher.
