Job summary

College of the Mainland in Texas City is seeking a full-time Cosmetology Instructor to develop and revise curriculum, teach classes, and provide scheduled student advisement with open communications. You will attend department meetings and support College activities.

Position requires a Texas Cosmetology Operator license (or dual license) and several years of salon and teaching experience; instructor certification with AAS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Active Texas Cosmetology Operator license or dual Cosmetology/Barber license.
• Three (3) years of work experience in Cosmetology.
• Five years salon experience and three years teaching experience.
• Certificate in Cosmetology instruction with AAS.
• Specialty training/certificates in Cosmetology.
• Experienced with Dual Credit student education.
• Mastery of course content.
• TDLR rules and regulations knowledge.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Develop and follow course syllabus according to institutional guidelines.
• Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
• Teach classes as scheduled and advise students.
• Evaluate students to measure progress toward objectives.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
• Assist department with organization and planning of activities including recruitment, outreach, and events.

Class Summary

Provide instruction within the Cosmetology Department. Develop and revise curriculum and course work. Provide scheduled office hours for student advisement, and maintain open and consistent communications with students. Attend Department meetings and other mandatory College events. Assist with site inspections by TDLR . Monitor compliance with TDLR standards. Maintain inventory and request orders. Participate in mandatory College training and professional development. Serve on College committees as needed and assigned. Participate in adjunct mentoring activities as needed and assigned within the department.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
