Job summary

Coast Southwest, Inc. seeks a Laboratory Intern to assist in formulating and testing personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products. You will fill sample requests, maintain documentation, and support R&D with basic lab techniques.

Responsibilities include coordinating with chemists, preparing samples for customers, and performing stability testing. Bachelor's students in relevant fields gain experience in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or similar fields.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and other team members.
• Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as mixers, viscometers, pH meters, titrators, gas chromatograph, etc.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, duties, and assignments.
• Knowledge of SDS, TDS, and batch procedures.
• Experience with wet chemistry (preferred).
• Experience with quantitative analysis (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assist in the formulation and testing of various personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products for publication in notable Personal Care Industry publications and web sites.
• Coordinate with Research Chemist/ Scientist in formula proportions, procedures, technical names, and specifications.
• Support Sales staff, as needed, by creating samples and troubleshooting formulas for Coast Southwest customer requests.
• Perform lab scale batches of proposed blends and reactions bound for manufacturing scale-up.
• Submit formulation and procedural information to Operations to create adequate Standard Operating Procedures.
• Partner with Research Chemist/ Scientist to perform stability testing on all R&D formulations prior to publication and new ingredient blends prior to scale-up.
• Research product formulations and properties of raw materials.
• Assist in the proper maintenance of the laboratory and equipment as well as all R&D records.
• Any other duties as directed by supervisor.
