Cook

Position Objective: To produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation in a timely and efficient manner. Assist in all aspects of the deli to ensure a high-quality product and excellent customer service.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Deli Manager.

Status: Non-exempt position.

Knowledge

The following are required for this position:

  • A food handling permit obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training as per Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
  • At least one year of cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation.
  • At least 6 months of experience in a deli or food service production facility.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills

Basic skills required include:

  • Developing daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items with management.
  • Practicing appropriate portion control.
  • Following all safety, health, sanitation guidelines, and government regulations.
  • Enforcing quality control of all deli products.
  • Supervising kitchen team members effectively and respectfully.
  • Fostering a positive team environment.
  • Training and managing part-time cooks.
  • Communicating clearly with team and customers.
  • Managing inventory and product rotation.
  • Answering customer questions accurately.
  • Meeting productivity standards.
  • Promoting sales and handling customer complaints professionally.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment safely.
  • Following recipes, menus, and promotional standards.
  • Basic math and reading skills.
Physical Abilities

Must be able to:

  • Reach overhead, twist, lift up to 20 lbs regularly, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for long periods.
  • Bend, squat, and work in cold conditions.
