Job summary

The Haskell Company in Jacksonville seeks a skilled welder to layout, fit, weld, fabricate, cast, and forge components for structural forms, building and bridge parts. You will select equipment, plan layouts, position and align parts, and perform welds using arc, MIG, SMAW, and oxy-fuel methods, with attention to safety and quality standards.

Excellent organizational and verbal communication skills are essential, with four years of welding experience and relevant AWS certifications preferred;

Qualifications

  • Four years of welding experience with appropriate certifications for the welds performed.
  • AWS certification, MIG welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and oxy-fuel cutting knowledge.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication safety requirements and quality standards.
  • Good organization and strong verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fits, welding, fabricating, casting, and forging components for structures and bridge parts.
  • Select equipment, plan layout, position and align components for welding.
  • Bolt, clamp, tack-weld, and set up equipment for welds using arc, MIG, SMAW, or oxy-fuel methods.
  • May assemble parts by bolting/riveting and may repair by dismantling and reworking.
  • Adhere to safety rules and maintain quality and documentation.

Job description

In this role, you will be responsible for lay out, fits, welding, fabricating, casting, and forging components to assemble structural forms, building, and bridge parts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques
  • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together
  • Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding
  • Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment
  • May assemble parts by bolting and riveting
  • May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using a cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools

Education/Experience:

  • Four years of experience and appropriate welding certifications for the type of welds to be performed
  • Experienced in the following:
    • AWS (American Welding Society) certification
    • MIG welding
    • Shielded metal arc welding
    • Carbon air arcing
    • Oxy-fuel cutting
    • Grinding
    • Familiarity with basic weld quality requirements
    • Familiarity with steel fabrication safety requirements

Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:

  • Good organization skills
  • Good verbal communication skills

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
