Job summary

Nevada Gold Mines seeks an Environmental Engineer specializing in closure and reclamation to join our Environmental Team at the Cortez operation. You will oversee closure projects and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with stakeholders to meet environmental objectives.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field and 1–3 years of experience; GIS skills are a plus.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, mine engineering, geology, hydrology, ecology or similar is required.
  • Ability to prepare technical communications and convey results to diverse audiences is required.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and working independently or in small teams is required.
  • Strong safety record and safety leadership are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Manage reclamation permits and regulatory reporting, update cost models as needed.
  • Implement closure and reclamation projects in compliance with regs and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the site Plan of Operations and land management obligations.
  • Document site as-built information to track reclamation liabilities and financial reporting.
  • Analyze environmental data for compliance, reclamation, and closure programs.
  • Engage with Federal and State authorities to communicate results and strategies.
  • Develop and implement site closure plans.

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer specializing in closure and reclamation to join our Environmental Team at the Cortez operation. As a vital member of this team, you will collaborate with various stakeholders and oversee the execution of closure and reclamation projects, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a diverse team. Your role will be critical in helping us achieve our environmental objectives and sustain our commitment to responsible mining practices. Responsibilities
  • Manage the site's reclamation permits, including regulatory reporting and updating the Reclamation Cost Estimate models as needed.
  • Implement closure and reclamation projects in compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with aspects of the site’s Plan of Operations, with a primarily focus on land management obligations.
  • Collect and document site as-built information to track and report reclamation liabilities, ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements.
  • Analyze environmental monitoring data for compliance, reclamation, and closure programs, including data on water quality, geochemistry, vegetation, and other material characterization.
  • Build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including Federal and State authorities, to communicate monitoring results and collaborate on strategies for the successful execution of closure and reclamation activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of site closure plans.
  • Adhere to state and federal health and safety regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, mine engineering, geology, hydrology, ecology (or similar) required.
  • Ability to prepare technical communications and convey results to audiences with varying levels of expertise required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • Ability to operate independently and in small multi-disciplinary teams required.
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. MS Office and data management programs) required.
  • Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in an environmental compliance or reclamation/closure role preferred.
  • Strong GIS skills preferred.
  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting analytical and monitoring data, with an emphasis on water quality and geochemistry preferred.
  • Experience managing regulatory compliance programs in the state of Nevada preferred.
