Job description

The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette is seeking an energetic, motivated person with experience in the safe operation of a steam or hot water utility plant to join our team as a Corrections Utility Plant Operator. Utilize your experience and help us keep SCI Fayette running smoothly!


As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will be responsible for overseeing an inmate work crew in the performance of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of a boiler plant within SCI Fayette. In this role, you will maintain efficient operations of natural gas hot water and steam boilers under normal and emergency conditions. This will require you to utilize manual and automatic control operation systems, as well as read and interpret visual and aural gauges, meters, and sensing devices. You can expect to perform scheduled and non-routine maintenance and operational assessments, clean equipment, and make minor repairs. Additionally, you will monitor inmate movement during operational hours and maintain a safe and secure work environment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. Other shifts may be available.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
