Job summary

Minnesota Department of Corrections is hiring a Corrections Teaching Assistant at the Lino Lakes facility. The role supports the Education Department in achieving institutional educational goals and will interact with incarcerated students.

The position requires experience in education or office settings, proficiency with MS Office, and the ability to tutor reading, writing, math, and educational technology. Evening shift from 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday–Friday, with nonexempt status.

The Department of Corrections is hiring a Correctional Teaching Assistant at our Lino Lakes facility! This position exists to provide support to the Education Department on meeting institutional educational goals.

The position is located at a Minnesota Correctional Facility and will have contact with students who are incarcerated.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in an educational or office setting
  • Ability to effectively operate office equipment
  • Experience using email, calendar, presentation, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office or similar)
  • Ability to read, speak, and write in English
  • Ability to tutor students in reading, writing, math, and educational technology
  • Skills in records management sufficient to gather and maintain statistical and other data for reporting purposes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with a diverse population
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an Associate's degree or higher
  • Experience and skill in educational program platforms sufficient to monitor and manage a computer lab
  • Classroom experience, including teaching, conducting training classes/workshops, and/or tutoring
  • Experience working in an educational setting
  • Experience working in a correctional setting
Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
