Job summary

County of Orange is seeking a Sheriff’s Correctional Services Assistant Trainee to enter a nine-week training program and be prepared to promote within one year. The role involves learning jail operations, security procedures, and regulatory compliance while rotating through assignments, including nights and weekends.

Applicants must clear extensive background checks, be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or GED (or higher), and possess a valid California driver’s license or alternate

Qualifications

• Read, understand, interpret and apply departmental policies, rules, laws and regulations pertaining to the care and security of inmates within an adult correctional facility.
• Write clear and comprehensive reports; learn security controls and safety procedures.
• Communicate orally and use MIS/automation tools to access case file information and electronic communications.

Responsibilities

• Attend mandated in-service training sessions and learn about civil law, CDCR regulations, Title 15 mandates relating to inmate intake, care and security.
• Prepare reports and memos as directed by training staff and maintain training notebook.
• Observe and learn from staff responsible for inmate worker productivity and jail operations.
