Job summary

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Officer Security Specialist to help secure facilities by developing and testing alarm and surveillance systems, conducting security audits, and enforcing policies.

This role supervises staff, coordinates with inmates, manages keys and radio communications, and participates in drug-testing oversight, with a focus on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of security systems and procedures.
• Ability to prepare clear reports.
• Willingness to undergo medical exam and meet physical requirements.
• Experience with security audits is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement security systems and processes within a facility.
• Inspect and test alarm systems, cameras, and radios to ensure proper operation.
• Conduct security audits of perimeters, staff adherence, and inmate activity.
• Initiate disciplinary actions for policy violations.
• Maintain and organize security equipment and supplies.
• Provide and test radios and belt alarm systems; manage testing and issuance.
• Oversee key control program and ensure keys are accounted for daily.
• Provide fire safety equipment and develop Fire Evacuation Plan.
• Oversee drug-testing program including scheduling and testing.
