Job summary

Dubuque County Jail is seeking a Correctional Officer to perform intermediate protective and human support service work ensuring inmate care and security. Work is under the supervision of the Jail Administrator and sergeants, with duties including inmate processing, daily rounds, and record-keeping.

Responsibilities include supervising inmates during meals and activities, administering medications, and assisting with visitor admissions, while maintaining compliance with regulations and ensuring

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with CPR and first aid training.
• Possession of all qualifications required by Dubuque County and the State of Iowa.
• Satisfactory driving record and valid Driver's License.
• Authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship provided.

Responsibilities

• Process inmates into custody, search prisoners, and manage personal property.
• Operate specialized jail equipment and assist with inmate care.
• Patrol the jail to maintain security and order.
• Supervise inmates during meals, exercise, work, recreation and hygiene.
• Assist with admissions of visitors, attorneys, police, and bondsmen, as turnkey.
• Supervise inmate workers and oversee mail, visits, and item inspections.
• Prepare and maintain detailed inmate records, both manual and computerized.
• Distribute and administer medications as prescribed.
• Maintain a clean workspace and staff the control room when needed.
