The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections at Huntingdon is seeking a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor to provide vocational training to inmates and ensure reliable operation of refrigeration and cooling equipment throughout SCI Huntingdon.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will supervise and train inmate workers while helping ensure the reliable operation of refrigeration and cooling equipment throughout SCI Huntingdon. This position combines technical trade work, vocational instruction, inventory accountability, recordkeeping, and security responsibilities. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Maintenance: Inspect, repair, and maintain refrigeration units, freezers, coolers, air conditioners, and related food service equipment
• Inmate Work Training: Plan, assign, instruct, and review refrigeration mechanic work while teaching trade practices and job skills to inmate workers
• Preventive Programs: Schedule maintenance activities, monitor equipment conditions, and maintain accurate operational logs and records
• Security Oversight: Maintain order in work areas, conduct searches, use metal detection procedures, and ensure compliance with institutional security requirements
• Tools And Materials: Issue, collect, inventory, and account for tools, supplies, equipment, and controlled materials used in work assignments
• Records And Requisitions: Maintain training, attendance, wage, maintenance, and inventory records, and submit requests for needed materials and equipment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).
• This position is eligible for full benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
