Qualifications

• An equivalent combination of experience and training including one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade

This position provides instruction and supervision to inmates at State Correctional Institution(SCI) Cambridge Springs as they learn the refrigeration mechanic trade through classroom lessons and hands‑on work. It supports safe practices, skill development, and completion of refrigeration tasks across the facility. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Trade Instruction: Teach inmates standard refrigeration practices including installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance
• Classroom Training: Deliver curriculum‑based lessons and maintain order and discipline during instruction
• Work Supervision: Lead inmate work crews, assign tasks, and inspect completed refrigeration jobs
• Record Keeping: Maintain documentation of inmate attendance, progress, and assignment details
• Tool Control: Issue, track, and inventory tools and materials while conducting searches to ensure accountability

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full‑time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of Basic Training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
