Job summary

The Bureau of Prisons/Federal Prison System seeks qualified corrections professionals to foster a humane, secure environment and help prepare individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

This position requires education at a master's level or equivalent, or 2 years of graduate study leading to such a degree, or LL.B/J.D. if related, plus specialized experience in correctional settings and inmate interactions.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or 2 years of graduate study leading to such a degree, or JD/LLB if related.
• Major study areas include correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology or related fields.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in correctional programs or inmate interaction.
• Combination of education and experience is acceptable; credit for time spent in relevant activities will be given.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight for correctional programs and interactions with inmates and staff.
• Audit and interpret sentence computations and train Correctional Systems Officers on basic steps for sentence computation.
• Oversee Mailroom, Receiving and Discharge, Records Office functions including admission, release, movement, and data management.

Education

Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

2 years of progressively higher level graduate education

LL.B or J.D. (related field)

Major study in correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology
