Job summary

State of Michigan is hiring Corrections Officers across multiple facilities to begin a career in corrections, supervision, and rehabilitation of inmates. The role emphasizes custody, security, and treatment within correctional facilities, with structured recruit training and on-the-job instruction.

Candidates must meet the education and experience requirements and may qualify for an education waiver to complete the 15 college credits.

Qualifications

Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field.
Corrections Officer 8 OR Correction Medical Officer 8; no specific type or amount required.
Two years of full-time corrections officer experience in another local, state, federal or private correctional institution, and currently employed satisfactorily in a corrections officer position, or have left corrections officer employment in satisfactory status.
Successful completion of basic training in the uniformed services.
Education Waiver - up to 24 months from hire to obtain college credits necessary to satisfy education requirement.

Responsibilities

Entry level positions overseeing and participating in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities.
Upon hire, complete the DOC Officer Recruit Training program (8 weeks) and two months of on-the-job training; probationary period at a listed facility.
