Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections invites applications for a Corrections Officer Trainee at SCI Chester. This full-time role provides hands-on training in custody, safety, and inmate support within a state correctional facility.

Training covers sociology, psychology, court procedures, and custodial responsibilities. Duties include inmate contact, security monitoring, report writing, emergency response, and uniformed service with weekend/holiday shifts.

Qualifications

• PA residency requirement is waived for this title.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Background investigation and CJIS compliance requirements.
• Medical examination, psychological evaluation, and urinalysis screening for drugs.

Responsibilities

• Inmate contact: interact with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
• Maintain security: monitor inmate movement and activities to maintain security.
• Observation: conduct rounds, head counts, security checks, and report unusual situations.
• Work schedule: 40-hour week; rotates shifts; weekends/holidays; adverse weather conditions.
• Training participation: formal instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures, self-defense, leadership, custodial responsibilities.
• Provide guidance: advise inmates adjusting to correctional processes and rules.
• Prepare reports: write and complete detailed reports.
• Respond to emergencies: act quickly and safely during emergencies.
• Uniforms: employer-provided uniforms.
• Union membership: follow promotion provisions of a collective bargaining agreement.
• Salary note: starting hourly rate and shift differential.
