Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Corrections Officer Trainee for the Department of Corrections to begin a career with hands-on training and strong support in a state correctional facility. The role emphasizes safety, order, and well‑being of inmates and staff.

Position includes full-time work with varied shifts at SCI Pine Grove, comprehensive benefits, and retirement options. Applicants will undergo training, background checks, medical and psychological evaluations, and CJIS compliance

Qualifications

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Background investigation, medical examination, psychological evaluation, and urinalysis screening for drugs.
• CJIS compliance requirements must be met.

Responsibilities

• Interact with inmates and visitors in direct and indirect situations.
• Monitor inmate movement and activities to maintain security.
• Perform rounds, head counts, and security checks; report unusual situations.
• Work a 40‑hour week with shifts, including weekends/holidays; overtime as needed; adverse weather is possible.
• Participate in formal instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures, self‑defense, leadership, custodial responsibilities, and organizational structure.
• Provide guidance to inmates adjusting to correctional processes and rules.
• Write and complete detailed reports.
• Respond quickly and safely during emergencies.
