Corrections Officer Trainees play a vital role within the Corrections department. Trainees will attend the academy before becoming certified Corrections Officers. Responsibilities include inmate supervision, transport, and safety, among other tasks. Apply now to start your career in Corrections with Pasco County BOCC.

Academy training includes:

  • Maintaining care, custody, and control of inmates
  • Conducting security checks and cell searches
  • Confiscating contraband
  • Monitoring and supervising inmates
  • Operating surveillance equipment
  • Transporting inmates
  • Documenting all activities and completing reports

Requirements and skills include:

  • Knowledge of Florida statutes and jail standards
  • Weapon and officer safety knowledge
  • Radio procedures and use of force
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Good communication and decision-making skills
  • Ability to attend and complete training academy

Physical skills and working conditions: Ability to communicate effectively, use necessary force, and perform physical standards required for the role. The position is 85 hours bi-weekly, with overtime, shift rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Additional conditions: Exposure to elements, stress, physical and verbal assaults, infectious diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.

Education and licensing: High school diploma or equivalent; valid Florida driver’s license; CJIS clearance; ability to travel as needed.
