Job summary

Duchesne County is seeking a Corrections Officer to contribute to the safety and security of the county jail. You will supervise inmates, perform searches, and maintain order under established policies and procedures.

The role requires attention to detail and effective communication to uphold safety and compliance. The position involves shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays, with opportunities to support inmate care, paperwork, and record-keeping.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Bilingual Spanish is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provides security of the county jail, including inspections of locks, gates, doors, and perimeter gates.
• Supervises inmates in accordance with policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Observes inmate conduct to prevent disturbances and escapes; searches cells for contraband; patrols areas for evidence of infractions.
• Discipline inmates as needed to maintain order.
• Performs inmate supervision during recreation, meal periods, and transit.
• Provides necessary needs (physical, medical, etc.) of inmates.
• Handles intake tasks for arrestees (searches, pat-downs, bookings, logs) and secures confiscated property.
• Prepares release paperwork and ensures property is returned; forwards court documents.
• Maintains arrest records including reports, bookings, releases, fingerprinting, and mug shots; keeps daily activity logs.
• Operates and oversees the Control Room and all security/electronic systems; maintains daily incident logs.
• Subject to on-call status and rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
