Qualifications

• Knowledge of correctional security techniques and practices.
• Knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office SOPs and General Orders.
• Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and orders governing detention facilities and corrections.
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations including first aid.
• Ability to supervise incarcerated persons.
• Ability to maintain/order among incarcerated persons.
• Ability to enforce established rules and regulations.
• Ability to apply personal defense techniques.
• Ability to perform arithmetic computations.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and apply information related to corrections.
• Ability to identify behavior patterns of incarcerated persons.
• Ability to learn and follow prescribed routines.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all contacts.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
• Ability to administer basic first aid.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to operate two-way radio, vehicles, and standard office equipment.
• Ability to use specialized equipment such as electronic security and monitoring equipment, firearms, chemical agents, restraining devices, and metal detectors.

Responsibilities

• Oversees custody of inmates at an assigned unit and processes inmate information for official records.
• Receives Reviews cash and bail bonds for accuracy.
• Releases inmates per procedures and supervises inmate work crews.
• Conducts periodic inmate counts and monitors security and safety.
• Performs basic first aid and operates radios, vehicles, and office equipment.
