Job summary

City of Zanesville, Ohio seeks a Corrections Officer to maintain jail security and supervise inmate activities under general supervision. Responsibilities include monitoring inmates, conducting searches, processing bookings, and ensuring compliance with jail rules and safety procedures.

Must be 18+, with a high school diploma or GED; OPOTA corrections coursework is optional. The role supports visiting lawyers, clergy, health staff, and other stakeholders, and requires reporting and documentation

Qualifications

• High school degree, GED or equivalent.
• 18 years of age or more.
• Completion of Corrections Course through OPOTA or qualified technical school (not a requirement to apply).
• Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three days of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains jail security and monitors prisoners.
• Supervises meals, sleeping, recreation, and living activities.
• Controls and restrains inmates to protect staff and others from harm.
• Reports and responds to unusual conditions or occurrences.
• Operates Central Control Board and electronic locks.
• Books inmates and collects booking information; handles money and property records.
• Releases prisoners as authorized and completes sentence or transfer paperwork.
• Supervises work detail of trustees and performs maintenance tasks when needed.
