Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking personnel to maintain security and supervise offender movement in state facilities. The role pays hourly and requires completion of Basic Training and firearms certification during training.

All employees must be 18 years of age or older and meet basic documentation requirements. The department promotes from within and emphasizes rehabilitation alongside strict safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• All employees must complete Basic Training.
• Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license and ability to complete firearms certification during Basic Training.

Responsibilities

• Maintains security in buildings and posts of an adult correctional facility; intervenes during emergencies or altercations and gains physical control of offenders.
• Supervises movement of offenders inside/outside the facility; conducts counts and searches for contraband; escorts/transports offenders as needed.
• Supervises offenders in housing units, during work activities, and during recreational/religious activities.
• Conducts inspections for health and safety hazards; prepares reports on violations, deficiencies, or security breaches.
• Discusses adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious issues to staff; promotes rehabilitation and positive activities.
• Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors, offenders, buildings for contraband.
• Performs work according to rules, post orders, and instructions; follows general administrative direction.
• Performs other related work as assigned.
