Job summary

Georgia Department of Corrections is hiring Corrections Officers to maintain custody and security of prisoners and to enforce institutional policies within correctional facilities. The role requires enforcing rules, escorting offenders, screening visitors, and patrolling assigned areas to ensure safety and order.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED and any training/experience meeting POST standards.
• Ability to enforce institutional policies, rules and public safety requirements.
• Capable of supervising and escorting offenders and managing custody effectively.

Responsibilities

• Enforces all institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
• Enforces rules and state laws for control and safety of offenders.
• Escorts offenders in transit and during leaves.
• Screens visitors at facility entrances.
• Handles and trains canines for tracking and search tasks.
• Inspects and inventories keys, tools, weapons and equipment.
• Maintains order and security in assigned areas.
• Observes offender conduct to prevent disturbances and escapes.
• Oversees offenders during work, meals, and recreation.
• Patrols areas and reports problems.
• Prepares admissions, programs, releases, transfers and other reports.
• Responds to emergencies.
• Takes offenders into custody and escorts to locations within and outside facilities.
• Transports offenders to and from correctional facilities.
