The State of Tennessee is hiring a Correctional Officer 1 at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. You will engage in correctional work of average difficulty, supervising inmates and ensuring safety.

This entry-level role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, U.S. citizenship, and the ability to pass extensive background checks and drug screening. A mandatory one-year training period leads to advancement.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.
• Be willing to and able to qualify with assigned weapons.
• Be at least eighteen years of age on the date of application.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Have good moral character, as determined by investigation.
• Complete a criminal history disclosure form and release records.
• Submit to fingerprinting for background checks.
• No felony convictions or unfavorable discharge from the U.S. armed forces.
• Pass a physical examination and a psychological evaluation as required.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screening and possess a valid driver's license (where applicable).

Responsabilités

• Supervises inmate activities in housing, dining, recreation and work areas.
• Inspects grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and risks.
• Checks in new inmates, assigns housing, searches for contraband, issues clothing.
• Observes inmate behavior, counsels on problems and reports to counseling.
• Attends staff meetings, disciplinary boards, and riot/first aid training.
• Prepares daily logs, disciplinary reports, inmate payroll records, and requisitions.
• Operates equipment including radios, firearms, mace, gates, cameras, and vehicles.
• Ensures inmate safety and breaks up fights or dangerous situations.
• Explains and enforces existing policies and procedures.
