Job summary

Langlade County Government in Antigo, WI is seeking a Corrections Officer (Female) to supervise inmates under the Jail Sergeant and maintain safety and security around the clock.

Corrections Officer (Female)

Locations: Antigo

Department: Jail/Sheriff Reports to: Jail Administrator Grade/Wage: Grade 6 / $23.54 to $33.23 per hour FLSA Status/Hours: Non-Exempt, 40 Hours per week

Summary

A Corrections Officer works with immediate supervision of the Jail Sergeant and works directly with the prisoners under the requirements of the State Statutes and Policy and Procedures provided by the Office. The Langlade County Jail is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and holidays. Corrections Officers maintain the Jail for safety and security of all staff and inmates 24 hours a day and are responsible for maintaining all Office equipment in a clean, neat, and presentable manner.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.

• Supervise inmates and inmate activity in detention facilities while providing care and correctional treatment.
• Manage inmate holding areas and ensure that inmates remain in custody.
• Transport and escort inmates within secured areas according to relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
• Contribute to the maintenance of institution security, including performing searches on inmates and visitors.
• Enforce rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate conduct, and inmate accountability.
• Conduct accurate headcounts and inventory inmates' personal property.
• Break up physical confrontations and protect inmates and fellow officers from harm.
• Provide emergency assistance as needed, including CPR, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
• Check mail for contraband and prepare incident reports and other required documentation.
• Uphold judgments of the law with honesty, reliability, and integrity.

Education and/or Experience

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be certified with the State of Wisconsin with the 200 Hour Basic Jail Course (or obtain certification through County-provided training).
• Must meet and maintain recruitment and eligibility criteria established by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Training and Standards Board.
• Must obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, AED, TIME System, and Breath Examiner Specialist (training provided).
• Must successfully pass oral interviews, drug screening, background investigation, and medical/physical exams.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide credible courtroom testimony.
• Ability to evaluate situations based on training and experience to make sound, rapid decisions.
• Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and policies governing the operation of the jail.
• Ability to react quickly, efficiently, and remain calm in emergency situations.
• Ability to enter and analyze computer information quickly and accurately.
• Strong mathematical skills and the ability to exercise discretion within designated duties.
• Valid driver's license required.

Technological Skills

Requires the ability to operate traditional office equipment and specialized security technology, including handcuffs, pepper spray, intoximeter, taser, video/audio recording systems, alarm systems, radio, RACC belt, fingerprint scanners, and digital cameras.

Approximately 90% of the time is spent walking, standing, sitting, and using near/far vision. About 10% of the time involves kneeling, stooping, grappling, jumping, climbing, and crouching. The department reserves the right to assess medical and physical fitness for these duties.
