THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR A FEMALE CORRECTIONS OFFICER

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a specialized non-law enforcement position in the Corrections Division of the Sheriff's Office. Employees work under close supervision to maintain security in a jail facility. Persons in this position operate under strict state and municipal rules and regulations regarding inmate care and safety. Other duties are assigned by the Jail Administrator, Chief Deputy Sheriff, or Sheriff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain inmate records
  2. Maintain jail security
  3. Search inmates and cells for contraband
  4. Monitor inmate conduct to prevent disturbances and escapes
  5. Escort inmates during visits
  6. Serve meals and distribute commissary items
  7. Process incoming inmates, safeguard possessions, and record bookings
  8. Ensure inmate safety and care
  9. Appear in court and testify as a witness
  10. Monitor Electronic Monitoring or Huber Law participants
  11. Record fines and bail money
  12. Maintain courteous and respectful interactions with the public, inmates, and colleagues
  13. Complete reports and documentation accurately and promptly
  14. Stay updated on laws, regulations, and certifications; suggest policy updates

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary coursework or knowledge in public safety/security is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Wisconsin Corrections Officer Certification (or obtain within specified time)

All employees must protect Protected Health Information (PHI) and report breaches.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, hearing, speaking, running, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, and lifting up to 50 pounds are required. May need to restrain prisoners and wear breathing apparatus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a secured jail facility with controlled access.
