Job summary

Osceola County is sponsoring candidates to attend Valencia College’s School of Public Safety in Orlando, FL for the Correctional Academy. Starting wages are $23.17 per hour, rising to $26.28 after passing the state exam, with a commitment to complete the Academy.

Selected applicants will undergo a rigorous Physical Assessment Test (PAT) and CJBAT, plus an informational session, background checks and CPR/First Aid certification before eligibility for officer duties.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and a United States citizen.
• High School Diploma or GED required; able to perform physically demanding corrections work.
• Valid Florida driver's license; CDL with passenger endorsement required prior to transporting inmates.
• CPR and First Aid certifications required.
• Must not have felony or perjury/misconduct convictions.
• Must pass CJBAT and PAT; background check, polygraph and medical exam; attend informational session.
• Must attend Corrections Officer Academy and be able to work all shifts.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise and monitor inmates housed in the Osceola Correctional facility.
• Maintain security, safety and control; observe, report and enforce standards.
• Transport inmates to and from various locations as directed.
• Participate in trainings and comply with regulations governing operations.
