Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections at Buckingham Correctional Center seeks a Security Officer III to provide for the safety and security of inmates, staff, and the public. Officers guard inmates, supervise activities, and enforce policy to ensure orderly confinement.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass medical, background, and drug screenings. A $6,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible new hires.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and to prepare workplace reports and documentation.
• Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Pre-employment requirements include medical screening, background check and drug testing (marijuana).

Responsibilities

• Oversee inmate custody and security and during transport; supervise daily activities of inmates while observing and recording behavior for safe confinement.
