Job summary

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university in clinical psychology, psychology, counseling, education, social work, or closely related field.
• Interview individuals to determine treatment, programming, or placement needs; make behavioral health recommendations; prepare written reports on offenders.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health services in a correctional setting to offenders, including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
• Participate as a member of the treatment team in staff meetings; define, provide, and schedule appropriate care.
• Provide counseling services, relaxation training, relationship counseling, substance abuse counseling, and pain management counseling.
• Provide crisis intervention to relieve immediate problems; de-escalate hostile or assaultive behavior; follow protocol to protect staff and offenders.
• Consult and train staff regarding policies and procedures and current developments in relevant areas.
• Plan and coordinate program services; participate in committees and quality review programs; work with Unit Management Team to deliver services.
• Document activities in written reports and charts; prepare information for billing and third-party payments where appropriate.
• Conduct research and evaluation for data collection to enhance services and assess outcomes.
