Job summary

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, LA. The role focuses on nursing care for inmates, including emergency response, chronic disease management, wound care, and mental health support.

Work in a secure correctional facility with a multidisciplinary team, stable schedules, and opportunities for growth within a state agency.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or an NLC/eNLC multi-state license.

Responsibilities

• Implements nursing care plan elements under supervision.
• Observes patient condition changes and reports them.
• Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.
• Measures vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Administers medications and treatments per policy.
• Transcribes orders and records patient status.
• Receives and gives shift reports.
• Requests stock drugs and supplies as needed.
• Administers CPR in emergencies.
• Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.
• Gathers patient history information.
