Job summary

Job Duties

• Position is responsible for assessing, developing, delivering, evaluating training, recording, and tracking all mandated, elective and specialty training of all staff for the facility.
• Responsible for the supervision of assigned training staff.
• Contributes to administration of performance management system for staff.
• Conducts ongoing inspections to maintain, security, sanitation, and good order of the institution.
• Interacts with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Drivers’ License.
• Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret policies/procedures and effectively prepare lesson plans and instruct accordingly.
• Knowledge of institutional security operations, equipment, and training techniques.

Additional Considerations

• Current DCJS General Instructor Certification in at least one of the following areas: Firearms, First Aid/CPR, and Defensive Tactics Certification.
• Knowledge of adult training methods.
• Demonstrated ability to produce written reports using a computer.
• Experience delivering training in criminal justice, corrections, or law enforcement environment., or university or equivalent training or experience.
