Qualifications

• Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders.
• One of: high school diploma or GED; or one year of experience in any field; or six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
• One year of this experience must have been in a role equivalent in scope to a Corrections Captain in State service.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff, assign workloads, coach, evaluate, and issue corrective actions when needed.
• Observe Group Leaders in the dorms, provide feedback on professionalism and youth interaction, and reinforce a positive, treatment-focused culture aligned with Louisiana Model for Secure Care (LAMOD).
• Coordinate the Skills Building Program and ensure staff follow policy, maintain youth portfolios, and support program effectiveness.
• Collaborate with the Recreation Therapist to plan and implement recreation and incentive-based activities consistent with LAMOD principles.
• Provide ongoing staff training, including pre-service, in-service, senior assessments, and one-on-one coaching; serve as a LAMOD trainer.
• Ensure Group Leaders complete required LAMOD assessments, compliance tools, documentation, and meeting participation.
• Support policy development, long-range planning, and facility-wide LAMOD implementation.
• Conduct and participate in audits, set deadlines for action plans, review submissions, and keep leadership informed of progress.
• Prepare accurate reports, maintain strong communication, and assist with special projects as assigned.
