Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Library Assistant for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Smithfield. You will support inmates' access to information and resources and help maintain a secure, efficient library environment.

You will perform duties in library operations, oversee inmate workers, coordinate services, process interlibrary loans, and respond to inquiries from inmates and staff with professionalism.

Qualifications

• Two years of clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must meet PA residency requirement.

Responsibilities

• Library Operations: Maintain orderly and efficient library activities and assist patrons.
• Worker Oversight: Guide inmate workers, support training, and attendance/progress reports.
• Service Coordination: Manage daily call-outs, inmate accountability, and delivering materials.
• Material Circulation: Process interlibrary loan requests and ensure books are not restricted.
• Daily Communication: Respond to questions from inmates and staff professionally.
• Collection Support: Recommend new books and periodicals to strengthen inventory.
