The Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) in Forest is on the lookout for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with the necessary experience to take on the role of Corrections Food Service Instructor. By joining the DOC, you will play a vital role in their mission to diminish criminal behavior through tailored treatment and educational programs for offenders, ultimately fostering successful reintegration into the community through accountability and transformative change.

In the role of a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will take on the responsibilities of a lead worker, overseeing the assignment, participation, and evaluation of both routine and specialized tasks carried out by inmates in various aspects of food service, including pre-preparation, production, service, and baking. Your duties will also involve maintaining strict control over inmate activities by implementing custody and security protocols, in addition to conducting thorough inspections of all food service areas, equipment, and food items to ensure compliance with established safety and sanitation standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM (1st Shift); 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM (2nd Shift); Rotating days off.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
