Corrections Facility Technician II – Denton, TX

Salary: $63,593.00 – $73,768.00 per year | Employment Type: Full‑Time (Non‑Exempt)

Position Overview

The Corrections Facility Technician II performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the Sheriff's Department, Detention Center, and jail facilities. Responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment, including jail security systems. The employee works in one or more building trades—electrical, plumbing, and/or heating and air conditioning equipment—and supervises activities of inmate trustees assigned to work projects.

Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled maintenance on mechanical and technical security systems (security locks and doors, surveillance systems, fire alarms, smoke exhaust systems, life‑safety equipment, etc.).
  • Maintain heating and air‑conditioning systems, checking thermostats, couplers, fuses, belts, motors, etc., and assist in major repair projects.
  • Perform plumbing tasks including assembly, installation, and repair of pipes and fittings, opening clogged drains, troubleshooting problems, and repairing toilets and faucets.
  • Repair, alter, and maintain building components—floors, ceilings, stairways, doors, walls, windows, masonry, furniture, and other law‑enforcement maintenance areas.
  • Assist in preparing estimates and cost analysis for projects to determine feasibility of completing work internally or contracting it out.
  • Assist in drafting and engineering drawings for repairs.
  • Repair and maintain electrical and mechanical high‑security door systems within the jail’s secure perimeter.
  • Supervise inmate trustees’ work projects, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Make vendor inquiries on delivery dates, purchase small items for repair jobs, and receive materials from vendors.
  • Review and inspect contracted work for quality and compliance with standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to the monthly schedule.
  • Conduct smoke tests and test all life‑safety equipment as required by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
  • Ensure regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current state or local license required for HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Jailer within 1year of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Texas driver’s license within 90 days.
