Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections in Northwest Florida Reception Center seeks an Adult Basic Education/GED Instructor to deliver Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies in a blended instructional model. This is a non-telework Career Service role reporting to the Education department.

You will teach, assess progress, counsel students, and participate in curriculum development and professional development activities to support inmate education and successful reintegration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire.
• State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to expiration of Temporary Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies.
• Supervise inmates, take attendance, and conduct roll calls.
• Assess and report student progress, administer tests and grades.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress and behavior.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development, assist in budgeting for the education program.
