Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies, the correctional healthcare provider, is seeking a Dental Assistant to join the team at Berrien County Jail in Saint Joseph, Michigan. This PRN position supports the dentist, handles instruments, radiographs and patient records, and participates in infection control and safety practices.

Qualified applicants will have at least one year of dental assisting experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, CPR certification, and be subject to security clearance

Qualifications

• Minimum of one-year dental assistant experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have current CPR certification.
• Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operatory with appropriate instruments and material for the patients scheduled to be seen.
• Assists dentist during treatment, providing instruments, material retraction or suction. Sterilizes instruments and disinfects operatory between patients.
• Schedules patients for dental appointments.
• Performs laboratory procedures such as mixing impression material for dentures and assists in the clinical procedures of prosthetic dentistry.
• Develops and mounts routine radiographs. Maintains dental charts and records of findings.
• Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Adheres to safety and infection control practices and participates in disaster drills.
• Inventories and orders supplies to maintain proper levels.
• Attends training and meetings as required.
