Job summary

New Mexico Corrections Department seeks a Corrections Case Worker to determine inmate classification and placement into eligible programming, and to prepare inmates for release. The role requires an associate degree or equivalent in related fields and may substitute two years of related experience for education.

Work is in an adult prison environment; safety-sensitive position with pre-employment and random testing. Interviews within two weeks of closing.

• Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Guidance and Counseling, Penology, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Family Studies/Services, Criminology, or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
• Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or experience in a correctional setting totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required education.

Due to the available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $28.41 per hour.

Experience in the following:

• Assisting interdisciplinary teams in the evaluation of offenders
• Participating in follow-up services and providing monitoring of offenders
• Inmate Classification process
• The reentry process
• Application of Good Time Laws
• Monitoring activities using a tracking system

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Guidance and Counseling, Penology, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Family Studies/Services, Criminology, or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or experience in a correctional setting, records management, file auditing, case management, law enforcement, counseling, social work, government assistance programs, rehabilitative environment, working on health or social service-related matters, behavioral health, policy and/or statutory compliance totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required education.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
