Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Corrections, is seeking a Corrections Barber Instructor for the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township. The role focuses on teaching barbering skills and supervising inmate learning within a structured vocational program.

You will deliver training, develop and manage the barbering curriculum, manage tools, track inventory, and oversee student participation. Full-time, 40-hour week, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

This role focuses on teaching barbering skills and overseeing inmate learning within a structured vocational program. As a Corrections Barber Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Training Delivery: Provide classroom and hands-on instruction in standard barbering practices
• Program Planning: Develop and manage the barbering curriculum in line with state guidelines
• Tool Management: Determine needed supplies and submit purchase requests for tools
• Inventory Control: Issue, track, and account for all tools and materials used in training
• Student Oversight: Maintain discipline and monitor inmate progress and participation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirement:

• You must be in possession of an active Barber Teacher License issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
