Job Responsibilities
  1. Assign work, supervise, and train employees and helpers from the resident population.
  2. Evaluate performance and recommend or take appropriate action.
  3. Prepare, cook, and dispense food; serve as lead cook on a shift.
  4. Supervise food distribution, utensil and equipment maintenance, sanitation, and safety standards.
  5. Manage supplies, inventory, and requisitions.
  6. Supervise garbage disposal and ensure food safety and sanitation standards.
  7. Plan menus in accordance with food allowances and established standards.
  8. Act on behalf of higher-level supervisors in their absence.
  9. Maintain records, prepare reports, and supervise conduct and security of persons and property.
  10. Inspect premises and search for contraband as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Option I: One year of experience in the California state service as a Cook Specialist II or equivalent.
  2. Option II: Two years supervisory experience over cooks and food service workers, with responsibility for food preparation and service; and
  3. High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional consideration for individuals eligible for Training and Development assignments.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily in-office with some supervision responsibilities in correctional facility environments.
