Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with supervised student teaching and coursework in General Psychology
  • Coursework in Human Development
  • Coursework in history/philosophy of education
  • Teaching methods for elementary/secondary learning levels
  • 24 semester hours in principal fields of instruction for secondary positions
  • 24 semester hours in special education with coursework on exceptional students
  • Three years of graduate education toward a Ph.D. or higher or equivalent doctoral degree
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and instruct remedial reading, math, and language arts programs for inmates with special learning needs.
  • Conduct specialized classes and coordinate educational resources to align with social adjustments.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement evidence-based educational systems to meet individual student goals.
  • Maintain security and perform correctional duties as required by the institution.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with supervised student teaching
General Psychology
Human Development
History and/or philosophy of education
Teaching methods appropriate to elementary/secondary level
24 semester hours in principal fields of instruction (secondary)
24 semester hours in special education including exceptionality coursework
Graduate education toward Ph.D. or higher
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade
