Job summary

Colorado Department of Corrections seeks a State Teacher I at Fremont Correctional Facility in Canon City to deliver education programs and support services to inmate students. You will plan and provide instruction in academic and life skills, guiding learners toward an Independent Living certificate and successful reintegration into the community.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in education and an appropriate teaching license (Colorado Initial or Professional).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field is required.
• Colorado Initial or Professional Teacher License; must obtain Professional License within three years if starting with initial license.
• ABE or Colorado Interim Authorization required.
• Out-of-state applicants must possess the appropriate educator license and upload it with application.
• Credentials must be valid at time of application and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Instruct inmate students toward completing Independent Living competencies.
• Provide classroom and individualized instruction in academic, cognitive education/life skills and re-entry programming.
• Develop lesson plans to improve student progression and achieve certification.
• Maintain educational records: grades, tests, attendance, progression and assessments.
