This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Bureau of Admission and Release.

The purpose of the Correctional Services Manager is to oversee and direct the Violation of Probation Processing Unit by managing daily operations, supervising staff, developing and implementing policies, ensuring compliance with Department standards, coordinating with legal and department leaders, and analyzing workloads to improve efficiency.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job Duties
  • Manage and lead the daily operations of the Violation of Probation Processing Unit, setting goals, developing policies, and ensuring work meets Department standards.
  • Supervise staff by communicating expectations, providing training, evaluating performance, and making decisions about hiring, transfers, and discipline.
  • Work closely with Department leaders and legal staff to plan and coordinate unit activities, especially when handling complex legal issues related to probation violations and court decisions.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that impact statewide operations, monitor case accuracy and compliance, and respond to inquiries from various criminal justice agencies.
  • Analyze unit workloads, recommend ways to improve efficiency, maintain statistics, and provide regular status reports to leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge:
  • Understand the principles and practices of corrections, the criminal justice system, and administrative procedures.
  • Understand case law, commitment/court order auditing, and release date calculations.
  • Familiar with computer applications and software platforms like Offender Based Information Systems, Microsoft Office, the E-Filling Portal, OnBase, and the Comprehensive Case Information System.
  • Technical Skills and Problem-Solving:
  • Proficient in using computer applications and software platforms like the Offender Based Information Systems, Microsoft Office, the E-Filling Portal, OnBase, and the Comprehensive Case Information System.
  • Ability to identify, research, investigate, and resolve technical and operational problems related to inmate sentence data, ensuring compliance with laws and court decisions.
  • Analyze court decisions and proposed changes in law and determine what impact they may have on release date calculations.
  • Use independent judgement to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
  • Communication and Reporting:
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with various legal and criminal justice agencies and prepare detailed reports on inmate sentence structures and release date calculations.
  • Process Improvement and Policy Implementation:
  • Analyze internal processes, implement procedural and policy changes to improve operations, and assess the impact on other business areas.
  • Training and Leadership:
  • Develop and provide training for institutional staff and direct reports on inmate sentencing issues.
  • Manage the unit to ensure accurate sentence data and public safety.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have FIVE (5) years of experience working in a professional Classification, Correctional Officer Series, or Probation Officer position ( professional classification includes Correctional Sentence Specialist or higher; Correctional Services Assistant Consultant or higher ). Years of experience can be combined.
  • Applicant must meet at least one of the following requirements:
  • At least FIVE (5) years of experience analyzing and auditing sentence structure, including split sentences, and/or processing court orders to amend sentences; or
  • At least FIVE (5) years of experience as a supervisor – SES in the institution, region or central office.
